Meet Governor-elect Smith:

Meet Ron Smith who was elected in August at the 90th Southwest District Convention  to serve as 2008-09 Governor-elect. He campaigned on the platform that Kiwanians really want to make a difference in a child’s life and that the challenge for the District, Divisions, and Club Officers is to provide each and every member with that opportunity. Ron urged the delegates to “Make a Difference, Today!”

Ron was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and moved to the Southwest 21 years ago. He and his wife, Joanne, have two grown children and two grandsons.

Ron’s background is varied. He served honorably in the US Marine Corps. He retired after 28 years as a US Federal Criminal Investigator and Manager. He has served as a contract trainer for Intl Law Enforcement Agencies “Undercover Survival” and as a Contract Intl Export Control and Border Security for State Dept and Homeland Security. Ron currently is an adjunct professor at Scottsdale Community College. Ron joined Kiwanis in 1999 when he became a member of the Fountain Hills Kiwanis Club. He has served as a club president, a Southwest District Foundation Director, and as a Lieutenant Governor for Division 11 for two consecutive years. His most current assignments for the Southwest District have been as CKI Assistant Administrator and Young Professionals Club Development Chair.

Ron enjoys golf, running (ran the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon 10K in Washington, D.C. and is planning to run in November, 2008), singing, and interaction and motivating young people.
